In celebration of National Literature Month this April, the Women in Literary Arts – Cebu, Inc. and the Cebuano Studies Center, together with the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), held “Banyuhay: Bagong Anyo, Bagong Buhay”, subtitled “National Literature Month Cebu 2017”, at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu on April 22, 2017.
This is one of the series of activities on Cebuano literature and culture in relation to the National Literature Month. The Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino, through the Sentro sa Wika at Kultura (SWK), held a moderated conversations on Cebuano poetry, fiction, and theatre in “Tertulya sa Bagong Panitikang Sebwano” in the morning.
In the afternoon, “Banyuhay: National Literature Month Celebration” featured poetry performances, book launches, trivia and riddle games, the stage play “Seguro ang Pancit,” a balitaw presentation, a Vispop lecture, and poetry open mic were held.“Banyuhay” is amongst the nationwide creativities of the NCCA for the National Literature Month celebration.
Women in Literary Arts (WILA), Mga Anak sa Dagang (MAD), and the Basadours are the partner organizations for the series of activities lined up for this month’s celebration. Balitaw performances and a video lecture on the balitaw was showcased in “Balitaw Molutaw!” at the Casa Gorordo Museum grounds, Lopez Jaena St., Cebu City, last April 19, 2017.
The National Literature Month has been celebrated in the Philippines for the past three years. This year’s theme is “Banyuhay,” the Filipino word for “metamorphosis,” which emphasizes the transformative power of literature.
